“Basket Crazed” Auction Procurement Party Success

Our 8th Annual Charity Golf Tournament and Dinner Auction is fast approaching!  We have been busy gathering sponsorships, donations, and items for this great event.  In addition to our business partners, we raise a significant amount of our annual giving budget every summer between our golf tournament and auction at Newcastle Golf Club.

May 20th, we had over 50 volunteers that descended upon board member Barry and wife Joan Horn’s home to donate, sort, pack, and organize dozens of items for our gift baskets, a highlight of our silent auction.  Items range from chocolates, wine, coffee, beauty supplies, to tickets to local events, sporting goods, and so much more.

We currently have over $5,000 in gift basket items and our goal is to double that!  Our silent auction is consistently one of the most fun, creative, and profitable parts of this annual event, and we expect this year’s event to be the best ever!

This year’s theme is “Touching Hearts” and we are still looking for your support in gathering gifts and donations that can make up another 28 gift baskets.  You can bring your donated items, wrapped or unwrapped to any of our weekly breakfast gatherings, or email Christina@libertyroadfoundation.org  to make other arrangements. We will let each of our guests know how grateful we are for your support in our auction literature and invite you to be a big part.

As a reminder, the event is August 14, 2012 and more information can be found at http://www.lrfcharityevent.com/.

WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT: WHERE HAS KINDNESS GONE?

“What is desirable in a man is his kindness.”

Proverbs 19:22a NASB

In today’s society much emphasis has been put on the outward appearance.  How we look, how we dress and how many achievements we have had.  In a society where so many put their emphasis on me first and instant gratification, kindness takes the back seat and yet Proverbs 3:3-4 NASB tells us, “Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck.  Write them on the tablet of your heart.  So you will find favor and good repute in the sight of God and man.”  As Steven Scott says,  “Kindness should be so much a part of our lives that that would be the first attribute a person notices about us.”

Dear God, help me to become more others-centered and less self-centered that that would be one of the primary attributes that others see in me.

WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT: GIVING THANKS IN THE FURNACE

“In everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”  (NASB)

 1 Thessalonians 5:18

There are times in our lives when things just don’t line up the way we think they should and yet we are told in all circumstances, all situations, we are to give thanks.  What with that?  I have found that giving thanks gets me back into right focus.  It switches my thinking more on God and less on myself.  And through this thanks I am more able to release the circumstances onto Him where He says, “Come unto Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden,

and I will give you rest.”  Matthew 11:28 (NASB)

WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT: QUITTING IS NOT IN OUR VOCABULARY

Quitting Is Not In Our Vocabulary

“And let us not grow weary of doing good,

for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” (ESV)

 Galatians 6:9

“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” (ESV)

James 1:12

Edison failed 1,000 times before he invented the light bulb.  Napoleon Hill said, “Do not be discouraged if you fail a few times.”  And it has been said, “Many of the great achievements of the world were accomplished by tired and discouraged men who kept on working.”

For nearly 30 years Abraham Lincoln endured personal pain, financial pain, and political pain but he didn’t give up.  On November 6,1860, he was elected President of the United States and by many he is considered to be the greatest president in U.S. history.  I’m glad he didn’t give up and that he had the faith and tenacity to keep going.

Lord, thank you for those dreams and goals you have put within my heart.

Help me to have the faith and courage to keep going, to never quit.
